When the frogs begin their spring chorus across Coonawarra’s wetlands, we know the vines are waking and a new vintage is on its way. That sound — gentle, rhythmic, and full of promise — captures everything we love about winemaking: renewal, connection, and the quiet anticipation of something extraordinary.
Founded by Bryce and Sonia Blacker, Howling Frog Wines was born from a shared love of the land and a lifelong appreciation for the art and science of wine. Growing up among South Australian vineyards - Bryce in the Barossa Valley, Sonia in Coonawarra - we were shaped by regions where wine isn’t just made, it’s lived.
Though our careers led us into the corporate world, our hearts never left the land and the vineyard. The dapper frog in our logo reminds us of that connection—a symbol of nature’s charm and optimism, and of the character that emerges when patience meets craft.
Working with the Australian Wine Research Institute and WIC Winemaking Services, we create small-batch wines that capture the essence of Coonawarra’s unique terroir — expressive, elegant, and deeply personal. Each bottle reflects our belief that great wine begins with great fruit, and that curiosity, care, and collaboration can transform it into something remarkable.
